What grinds my gears is when people are too busy hanging on every word I say to try to catch me in a lie, rather than paying more attention to what I’m actually trying to say. They get so caught up in fishing for “gotchas” that they end up missing my entire point. If they are so intent on playing “Catch A Lie” then they should start by recording their own conversations. No high score to rack up here.

I could be telling someone their house in on fire, and they’re more concerned with what I was doing in their neighborhood in the first place. The funny of the irony is that the more I am trying to help them out, the more defensive and accusatory they get. Worse, whenever whatever it is that comes to bear, they want to know why I didn’t try to tell them earlier. When, in fact, I did, but they were too busy criticizing the messenger to bother with the actual message.

I know this makes me an asshole, but I would think that if people got tired of hearing me say “I told you so” time and time again, then maybe, they would listen to me the first time around. I would think. Or, I could just shut up and not say anything, only to get accused of letting someone fail on purpose.
