At about 5 a.m. each day — maybe a little later on weekends — an email from the Rev. Bill Shillady arrives in Hillary Clinton’s inbox.
I honestly don’t know why Hillary keeps her faith out of the limelight, except maybe to broaden her appeal, or not come across as a religious zealot (the way other Southern Democrats tend to). But in her Congressional appeals or in smaller gatherings, she has been known to speak about how her faith guides her actions.
The most moving to me was her reconciliation between her longstanding belief in traditional marriage and her obligation to represent her LGBT constituency. It was her conscious decision to not allow her religious freedom to interfere or prohibit the Constitutional protections of other Americans. It was a perfect example of practicing #AllLivesMatter in the truest sense.
Some of her most memorable (and relatable) speeches are those based on her Christian values. Too bad she doesn’t make more of it.
