Some are saying that President Obama has no say in the ongoing civil unrest against police brutality. He is President of the United States, and has only federal authority, it’s not his place to intercede in local issues.

I call that bullshit. This is a national issue, and we’ve seen mass protests in cities across the country. Police departments receive a large amount of their operational costs from federal funding. Where do you think all the war surplus military heavy-duty tactical gear came from, Santa Claus? The grants that helped police departments from cutting even more officers came from Washington DC. The local police forces are at the mercy of the federal government, #NYPD is no exception.

How is it that a White royalty prince named Kennedy and another White Southerner named Johnson had the stones to not only enact, but promote civil rights laws during Segregated racist America, yet a black civil rights attorney named Obama has NOTHING to say, beyond just admonishing the killing of two cops by a nutjob?

Mr President, where is this HOPE you promised us? What is the CHANGE we voted for?

In SIX YEARS of the Obama Administration, we have seen aid to the poor and minorities slashed by the BILLION$, while corporations still raked in even more in tax breaks and bailouts. Unemployment was hampered while the recession still lingered, and after corporate giants like Bank of America put record numbers of American families on the streets with fraudulent practices like forging foreclosure notices and refusing govt-backed refinancing, the same govt cut food stamps ànd made it impossible to get another home. While hundreds of protesters were locked up for their outrage, not a single banker faced a single charge for their illegal actions.

President Obama was quick to go on record numerous times to encourages states and businesses to recognize gay rights as part of doing business in America, so quick that he became branded by Newsweek as America’s First Gay President. He has efforted labor reform to benefit wage increases and protections for migrant workers. And yet, when America speaks up against police brutality, he has so far, only been a vocal supporter of the police.

What can Obama do? He is the President of the United States. That title isn’t just ornamental. One President ended slavery. Another ended segregation. Another enforced it. And yet, this one cant lift a finger in response to public outcry?

This isn’t just about a Black President looking out for Black people. This is about the President of Democracy looking out for democracy. This isn’t a fight to pick or choose from. A black teen gets stalked and killed by an armed vigilante with no repercussions, and the President simply gave his condolences. If this was just an issue about race, I would still be outraged as a fellow minority. But this is about everybody in America. If it hasn’t happened to you, it hasn’t happened yet. Just ask anyone who already has.

Where is our national leader on this? He can chastise other foreign leaders about human rights violations in their countries, what about whats going on in his own backyard?
