Divisive.

All of the other words that are gonna pop up are going to be polarized to one side or another. It is challenging to keep a neutral opinion about his Presidency, to put it mildly. That divisiveness fuels his power and influence. Without it, he would’ve just been another attention-seeking celebrity who failed to use politics for greater fame.

The Forgotten America

His unexpected rise to prominence is only unexpected to us. There is a whole nother America that has felt overlooked and neglected by both govt and society. And I don’t mean the under-represented minorities that come to mind in liberal circles. There are huge swaths of White American communities that we just assume are doing okay because they’re White. The same communities that were hard hit by shifts in economic interests and political ideologies.

For example, all the celebrity activism to help Flint, Michigan focused on the Black neighborhoods. Even though the tainted water system affected every house, on every block that the Lake Michigan fed. When we talk about socio-economic blight, we think of Detroit, Mi or Baltimore, Md. We don’t think of the nameless communities in Kentucky, West Virginia, Idaho, Arkansas, etc. where unemployment and poverty rates have been skyrocketing, regardless of whether Bush or Obama was in office for two terms. Police brutality stories against Blacks are finally making headlines after decades of “meh,” but we’re wrong to focus on that as a race issue. There was not an ounce of social outcry when Georgia cops executed a no-knock warrant with a flash grenade that landed in a toddler’s crib, the officers escaped responsibility, leaving the family with a million-dollar medical bill. Black liberals were as concerned about that as White conservatives were with Tamir Rice.

It’s Not So Black & White

My point is that while racism is prevalent epidemic in American life, it’s not the only problem. In fact, a lot of what’s happening disproportionately to minorities in the United States is also happening to Whites on an unbelievable scale.

We can’t fix America, without fixing racism. And we can’t fix racism without fixing America. The more divided we become, the more unfixable this mess gets.

Divided We Fall

Unfortunately, we have a President who isn’t going to be able to fix America. He’s only going to keep giving all of us excuses to blame. Libtards and Rightwing nuts. The privileged elitists vs the lazy slobs. Flag wavers vs knee takers.

As long as divisive is keeping us more and more divided, America will keep sinking to new lows. “Shithole” is now a commonly-used term in social media. I didn’t think we could stoop any lower than “pussy grabbers.” We are all offended by it, but we’re all using it. Even the political cartoons are getting obscene.
