If Israel pulls dollars it owes to the UN, what if we reduced our contributions to Israel, dollar-for-dollar, and pay Israel’s obligations to the UN on their behalf?
What irks me is the bullying tactic of claiming that anyone against the illegal settlements must be anti-Israel, and more broadly, anti-Semitic. I am not anti-Israel, but i am anti-settlements. I am against occupation in general. The entire world is against Israeli occupation and settlements, except Israel.
Instead of simply lashing out at its critics, maybe Israel should listen to the criticism. You cant claim to be a beacon of democracy while depriving democracy to the people under your watch, within your reach. My criticism of the US govt for exercising the same hypocrisy here at home, doesnt make me unAmerican. It means that I, as a fellow American, have greater expectations of my govt.
I am pro-Israel. I am not blind to the reality of the hostile relationship Israel has with its neighbors in the Middle East. There are many who see its existance is blasphemy itself, and want nothing more to see the nation dissolved, if not destroyed. The nation has every right to take steps to ensure its survival. But that struggle must be to coexist, not dominate. Its dangerous that Israel has nukes for the same reason as North Korea: self-preservation.
