The Bible and Discrimination

We know discrimination is wrong, because we suffer from it. For generations. We know how demoralizing it feels to be treated less than everyone else, less than a human being. We know how hypocritical it is to justify bigotry with God’s teachings.

So why do the ethnic minority communities perpetuate the hate against the LGBT? We are simply mimicking our oppressors, our masters, our haters, we have become them. Classic Animal Farm. Didn’t even skip a chapter.

Many minorities need to take what they say about gays and trans, change out the sexual identity for racial identity, and hear it again coming from a white person’s voice, and be real honest how it feels. If you hate white people for how they treat blacks, then why perpetuate the hate to gay/trans?

Because it makes sense to us. Acting like God gives us a false sense of power. To condemn, stand above. We enjoy that same mentality that Lucifer felt when he realized he had an army to lead. The son’s mistake was thinking he could be like his father. We feel stronger when we can strike a mighty blow against those who we find inferior.

Are we ready to shed our need for power, and strive for the need for humility? We cannot be truly Christ-like without first being humble to God, and then compassionate to mankind. Otherwise, we push forward the hypocrisy that has always held us back. Doomed to repeat what we have not learned from.

And if we’re going to use the Bible to justify bigotry, just remember the same Bible has rules condoning slavery (Deuteronomy 15:12-15; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 4:1). Which I find ironic, since God Himself allowed Moses to free his own people from bondage.
