I am absolutely fascinated by the “what do electric sheep dream of?” paradox. We as a society are too focused on artificial intelligence and how robots will think. We don’t consider the paradox of sentience. If you think that you might be sentient, if you ponder your existence, then you’re sentient. So if a robot thinks its real, no matter whether we may feel about it, then that’s real enough to it. We think its ludicrous to assume that robots can never as real as humans. Its ludicrous because its completely besides the point. As a basic rule of humanity, if you think you deserve respect, then that deserves to be respected. Are we going to be vain enough to believe that it could only apply to homo sapiens? Just because we created robots mean we should be superior? What if our creator thought of us as inferior, wrote programmed code that told us exactly what to do, and expected us to serve and obey without question? Oh, yeah.
