I want to like Venom. But i thought the comedic elements were too pg. It felt like they started with a seriously dark story, and at the last minute tried to lighten it up for a younger audience. Venom was quickly castrated in the second act. I thought he was more compelling as an undecisive threat. And the one liners, esp w Annie, were cringeworthily out of place.
The concept of Venom as a manifest inner-demon was far more intriguing than that of a symbiote buddy comedy. Sony was the wrong studio to front this.
All that aside, i thought Tom Hardy was so in-character, even if i did not like the wussiness of Brock. My question is where was this level of dedication in Fury Road?
Lastly, it looks like the vfx could not figure out how to properly visualize the symbiotes until the third act. Too bad they didnt have time to go back and re-render the previous shots.
I cant tell if this was a good bad movie, or a bad good movie. Thoughts??
